Südkabel is proud to contribute to the 500 MW Greenlink Interconnector between UK and Ireland to increase renewable energy exchange capacity. Südkabel will supply approx. 63 km of 320 kV HVDC land cable for the onshore route (approx. 24 km Ireland and 6 km UK), said Sebastian Ebert, Vice President and Global Head of Sales, Marketing & Execution at Südkabel.
Südkabel GmbH, Mannheim, will participate in one of the major HVDC-link projects in Europe as a technology partner of Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd., Japan, and will provide beside the landcable supply also services for installation, engineering and commissioning. The cooperation benefits from Sumitomo Electric’s advanced HVDC XLPE material technology and HVDC submarine cable experience and Südkabel’s more than 20 years of experience in executing Extra High-Voltage XLPE cable system projects worldwide. Südkabel‘s Managing Director Dr. Johannes Kaumanns expressed: “We are very proud to support one of Europe’s major HVDC-link projects for the energy transition to achieve the sustainable climate and environment protection targets through our close collaboration as technology partner with Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. This includes our European competence in the manufacturing of HVDC cables -Made in Germany-.”
After many years of intensive qualification and testing, Südkabel is able to apply Sumitomo Electric’s advanced HVDC XLPE material technology and participate in such a significant infrastructure project with our EPC turnkey knowledge to deliver extruded underground cables, manufactured in the heart of Europe.
